What are the candle refill bags made out of?

Biotre® is made using renewable materials of wood pulp and cellulose. Sixty percent of the bag’s material by weight is home-compostable within 12 weeks. The remaining inner film is made with an additive that causes it to oxo-degrade over 5-10 years vs. the estimated 1,000 years for typical plastic materials. This additive was necessary to preserve the integrity of our fragrance (and its packaging) over time. The outer layers of our bag break down naturally in a home-compost environment. The inner layer can be removed from compost if found and disposed of with normal trash. 60% less material goes to the landfill. We recognize this packaging solution isn’t perfect; however, we believe it’s a step in the right direction. We hope with the support of the community and small changes, sustainable material alternatives will begin to grow in availability.  As they do, we’ll continue to evaluate our packaging for options that don’t require us to compromise on the quality, stability, and shelf life of our packaging or product.
